Bishop pine – (Pinus muricata) A “Closed Cone” pine originating from the Californian coast. Grows up to 24 metres with a DBH of 90cm.
Scots pine – (Pinus sylvestris) Grows to a height of 25 metres with a DBH of over a metre. A native pine, very common in the Caledonian forests of Scotland. An important timber tree, its uses include pulp and sawn timber.
Corsican pine – (Pinus maritima) Grows to a height of 45 metres, non native as the name suggests. Grows well in light soils, withstands salt winds and exposure.
Lodgepole pine – (Pinus contorta)
Maritime pine – (Pinus pinaster) A medium sized tree growing to a height of about 20-35 metres. Widely planted as a timber crop and extends from France to Portugal.
Japanese larch – (Larix leptolepis)
European larch – (Larix decidua)
Hybrid larch – (Larix eurolepis)
Douglas fir – (Pseudotsuga mensiesii)
