Exposed Sites

No native tree species will grow particulary well in exposed conditions, rather some species will simply tolerate the conditions better than others. Consider planting a combination of low growing hardy shrubs at the base of bigger trees to buffer strong winds.  Space between each tree to allow strong winds to pass through. It is usually not worth trying to stake individual trees which will probably prove ineffective and costly.  The simple answer is to plant smaller trees!
